Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Two More Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, reminiscent of a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to various cultural shifts.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
