Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to coach Liverpool is plausible in theory.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait for three decades, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
The club claimed the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the possibility that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he shared with his interviewer: “I declared I won't manage another team within the country. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe how things unfold.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on what circumstances must arise to draw him back to management, Klopp admitted he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he said. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal with the team talking freely, that’s nice. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears for example.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, crediting him for the adjustments that won the league last term. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the idea of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker like Florian Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. It’s a really good well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, things will improve.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in while in charge, and the effect at the club. The forward lost his life in a road accident together with his sibling this past summer.
“Can you substitute a person like him? It’s not about his footballing ability, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the dressing room without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Overwhelming.”
