Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of the player by name in their statement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
